Work at Foundational
About the team
Foundational is a focused team of B2B integration specialists with over 25 years of history in managed EDI and supply chain connectivity. We’re part of Paragon Consulting Services, which gives us the stability and breadth of an established enterprise firm with the focus and culture of a specialized practice.
Our work is technical and hands-on. A typical week might involve building integrations for a new trading partner, troubleshooting an ERP integration during a customer’s system upgrade, onboarding a manufacturer to a new retailer’s compliance program, or working through an exception queue with a customer’s operations team. The problems are real, the stakes matter — these integrations keep supply chains running — and the work is genuinely varied. No two customers or trading partner environments are quite the same.
We’re headquartered in the Pittsburgh area and work with customers across manufacturing, distribution, retail, logistics, and steel processing. Most of our team works in a hybrid model, with remote roles available depending on the function.

About the opportunity
For over 25 years, Foundational e-Business Services has been the managed integration partner that mid-market manufacturers, distributors, and industrial companies rely on to connect with their trading partners. We handle the complex B2B data exchange—EDI, API, and everything in between—so our clients can focus on running their business. We’re a small, deeply experienced team that values doing things right, and we’re investing in the next generation of our technology platform.
The role
We’re growing our development team and looking for a Business Integration Developer who is excited about the future of B2B integration. This role is centered on Python and modern API development, building the integrations that move purchase orders, invoices, shipments, and other critical business documents between our clients and their partners.
You don’t need to know every acronym in the integration world on day one. What matters most is that you understand the business behind the data—what a purchase order is, what happens when a shipment goes out, how an invoice gets reconciled—and that you can build reliable, maintainable software to make that data flow. The data itself shows up in many formats: JSON, XML, EDI, flat files, and more.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain integrations that exchange business documents between trading partners
- Develop primarily in Python across multiple platforms
- Work directly with clients to understand their business processes and translate them into robust technical solutions
- Map and transform data between formats and systems
- Support and troubleshoot live integrations, ensuring data moves accurately and on time
What we’re looking for
Required
- Strong Python development skills, with an emphasis on clean, maintainable code
- Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST/JSON, and ideally XML-based services)
- A solid grasp of core business documents and workflows—purchase orders, invoices, advance ship notices, shipments, and similar
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work directly with clients
- Comfort working independently in a small, collaborative team
Nice to have
- Familiarity with EDI standards (X12, EDIFACT) and translation concepts
- Experience with the metals, manufacturing, or distribution industries
- Exposure to IBM i (AS/400), including RPG and/or CL
- PHP experience
- Familiarity with file transfer and security tools (AS2, SFTP, PGP)
What we offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Employer-paid healthcare for the employee
- Retirement plan with employer matching contributions
- Remote flexibility with optional hybrid at our regional offices
- A key role on a seasoned team, with real ownership and a clear investment in modern technology and your growth
